My name is Kathryn Ormsbee, and I write stories about magical worlds, mysterious towns, and tenacious teens.
I write Middle Grade novels as K.E. Ormsbee. THE WATER AND THE WILD is a portal fantasy trilogy. THE HOUSE IN POPLAR WOOD, a folk mystery, was published by Chronicle Books in Fall 2018. MIDNIGHT ON STRANGE STREET, a futuristic sports tale, comes out from Disney-Hyperion on January 21, 2020.
I also write young adult novels. Titles out now: LUCKY FEW (Harold & Maude + homeschooling), TASH HEARTS TOLSTOY (web series + ace rep), and THE GREAT UNKNOWABLE END (1970s + The Twilight Zone). THE SULLIVAN SISTERS, a PNW family mystery, comes out May 2020 from Simon & Schuster BFYR.
I was born and raised in the Bluegrass State. Since then, I’ve lived across the pond, in England and Spain, and stateside, in the southern cities of Austin, Birmingham, Lexington, and Nashville. I now reside in emerald-hued Oregon with my fiancée and our pup.
Odd jobs I did before: taught English as a Foreign Language, worked with a film society, and produced a Shakespearean-themed web series. I love listening to podcasts and producing them. I’m the co-host of creepy slumber party podcast The Creepover and re-watch/review podcast Good Evening: An Alfred Hitchcock Presents Podcast. I like clothes from the 60s, music from the 70s, and movies from the 80s. I am from the 90s.
Kathryn (K.E.) Ormsbee writes books for children and Young Adults, including Tash Hearts Tolstoy and The House in Poplar Wood. Her novels have been critically acclaimed, translated into six languages, selected for the Indie Next List and Junior Library Guild, and made “best of” lists at Amazon, Buzzfeed, and the Chicago and New York Public Libraries. She lives in Oregon with her fiancée and their dog, where she writes, podcats, and composes music.
